Abstract

This article is the result of the systematization of the different studies on the phenomenon called “neopentecostalism”. We present a kind of matrix of characteristics that allows us to visualize the various manifestations of the neo-Pentecostalism in Latin America based on the characterizations that scholars of religion have made. This in order to identify reductionisms and avoid generalizations based on a single specificity of empirical reality. Thus, we start from the conception of neo-pentecostalism as an obstacle-concept that attempts to explain a diffuse and multiple phenomenon with religious expressions linked to heterogeneous movements within the Christian world.
