Abstract

In addition to the application of various material, organizational, and financial measures by the Mexican government to address the coronavirus-19 pandemic in 2020, the implementation of an effective communication strategy to support such actions was also essential. However, this information project produced many contradictions and serious errors that, instead of strengthening the state programs in the epidemiological sphere, weakened them to a significant degree, causing great confusion, psycho-emotional wear and tear, and loss of many human lives. Thus, the government communication strategy became a confusing, incoherent process, unclear about the seriousness of the threat, abusing technical or political explanations, discretionary handling of data and, with serious disagreements between the same authorities and technical experts. In short, this communication model of the left of the Fourth Transformation put the political interests of defense of the government image before the priority of the preservation of the lives of citizens, leading the country to a huge catastrophic scenario of collective health.
