Abstract

Critical review on discourse's multiple possibilities in tbe postmodem historical novel by specielists such as Francisco Abad Nebot, German Gullon, MAtias Barchino, Margarita Almela, Niall Binns, Maria del Carmen Bobes Naves and Angeles de la Concha. To the factors that primarily influence discourse (metanarration, fragmentation, for example) are added those regarding verisimilitude, historical truth and reconstruction vis-a-vis the use of parody and ludicrous treatment of events as a subversive form. Along with reflections on theory, the essay analyzes Fernando del Paso's book Noticias del Imperio, a historical novel whose main purpose is to reappraise tbe role of literary imagination.
