Abstract

Sleep analysis by means of activimetry is a technique that means / implies a totally verified / confirmed alternative to EEG monitorization, thus being used in particular in case of newborn and children due to its easy utilization. This sleep-detection system consist of three components: a watch strap actometer (Actiwatch®), a reader that communicates the actiwatch with a personal computer, and the software for the appropriate analysis, which processes the collected activity, therefore obtaining determined night sleep parameters from the Sleep Analysis software, as: Assumed Sleep, Actual Sleep, Sleep Efficiency and Sleep Latency, among others. In the same way, using the Nap Analysis option we get to analyze the possible diurnal sleep episodes. That’s why together with both the easy handling of the actometer and its software, and without losing reliability just because of it, its use is recommended / suggested in the sleep study in different states and stages of a life’s person.
