Guillén, both in poetry and in journalistic prose. Colonialism therefore presents itself as a common enemy, in stark contradiction to the freedom sustained and sung with the best encouragement by Cuba’s national poet. From this perspective, we will analyze not only the victimization that Black people were subjected to because of slavery, but also their rebellions and their participation in shaping the Cuban national profile.

Introduction

Por descolonización entendemos el proceso de independización política y económica, social y cultural de una nación que ha sido dominada. Así que la independencia de Cuba no existe como un hecho real ya que “el fenómeno colonial español, al desaparecer, dio paso al fenómeno imperialista norteamericano”,13 razón por la cual la descolonización es un tema constante en la obra de Guillén que supo salvar las fronteras entre la prosa y la poesía como lo veremos ahora.
