Abstract
It was in the sixties when in Spain took place a revival of Classical Studies, which caused a reconsideratin of these studies and to think about making a Greek Lexicon aimed at University graduates and students. A small team under the direction of Prof. Rodriguez Adrados started the work, but they soon realized the difficulties of processing a mass of text which had been increased considerably in previous years. They decide broaden their objectives opening new fields and with novel methods. The research team becomes larger and more stable and allows the publication of the first volumes. Afterwards, computer applications, the web page and other electronic implements facilitate integral porcessing of data and greater reliability of functions, six volumes being published and other reference books, printed and in Internet. The great scope of the work makes that its indicators do not point to an easy and flashing success. But, even when we are not short of national and international recognition, we believe that its main success lies in becoming, in many aspects, standard and canon for several other important international enterprises.

Summary
Los estudios clásicos habían alcanzado a principios de los sesenta un momento de florecimiento, constituyendo en aquellos años en España una importante isla de debate y expansión del pensamiento y la cultura. Con el radical optimismo de varios miembros del equipo, se confiaba en una buena acogida internacional y, efectivamente, en los dos años posteriores ya habían salido más de quince reseñas en revistas extranjeras por parte de estudiosos de reconocido prestigio[26], lo que significó un espaldarazo para el futuro de la obra. Pensando cómo paliar eventuales altibajos bruscos y a la vez cómo abrirnos a la sociedad, desde la trayectoria y experiencia de un trabajo dilatado en un campo que nos obliga a interpretar la pluralidad del mundo antiguo, decidimos constituir en el año 2000 la “Fundación Lexis pro Diccionario Griego-Español”[40] para promover la cultura griega antigua y el conocimiento de la Antigüedad Clásica en general. Durante el año 2006 hemos disfrutado de una generosa subvención de la Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid, mediante un convenio con el propio CSIC
