Abstract
ABSTRACTThis article offers a sociological interpretation of literary expressions between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, in order to reconstruct the Castilian reception of the new canonical pastoral culture. With this aim, a wide chronological and thematic framework is constructed, from which the incorporation of Castilian Christianity into the new Roman juridical and pastoral forms between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries is approached. The article considers the link between the formation of a dual ecclesiastical power – legal and pastoral – and the religious and institutional standardization of Christianity. To this end, the relation between Rome and Castile is studied in two spheres: the recognition of the Roman legal power and the encounter between diverging pastoral cultures. This framework constitutes the point of departure for approaching the reception of the new pastoral culture, interpreting Castilian expressions of moral theology and clerical lyric poetry.
