Abstract

In a strict judgment of the novel by Jose Tomas de Cuellar, El comerciante en perlas, the conclusion has it that it is not an historic novel, but rather of historic subject, given that the time distance between the facts that serve as a framework and the writing of the work is barely twenty years apart. This third novel in Cuellar's literary production is an eclectic work since romantic values, realism type elements and neoclassic positions concur therein.
