Abstract

Film has not, in general, been appreciated by historians as a source, it being considered that it both turns its back on reality and is subject to extra-historical interests. The present article proposes a new look at this posture and a reinterpretation of film in its different forms (news broadcasts, documentaries and cinema) in order to reflect upon the facts and understand the mentalities of different epochs. While describing the different approaches of Cinema to History, special consideration is given to film on art.
