Abstract

There is an exceptional portrait by the 17th century Granada painter Pedro de Moya in the Conde de las Infantas collection in Granada, which has to date been identified as the Portrait of Archbishop Escolano. However, this title is very dubious, since the image bears little relation to the portrait of the archbishop included in the series of bishops to be seen in the Archbishop's Palace in Granada. The results of research undertaken into the various engravings in the Prints section of the National Library allowed us to identify the subject of the portrait as Cardinal Portocarrero, and to provide an approximate date for the painting.
