Abstract

The article examines the origins of the phenomenon of collecting and the beginning of historical and cultural research in the colony of New Spain through the prism of the biography of Lorenzo Boturini Benaduci. The biography of Lorenzo Boturini Benaduci became a kind of marker of the era in the context of personal history and cultural studies of personality; it illustrates the complex way of folding the various areas of cultural activity characteristic of the European cultural space, on the territory of the Spanish colony in the first half of the XVIII century.
