El antiguo retablo mayor del convento de San Francisco de Écija: obra del pintor flamenco Giraldo de Hel (1563-1566?)

Abstract

On March 20, 1563, Fr. Juan de Belalcazar, guardian of the Saint Francis monastery in Ecija contract with the Flemish painter Giraldo de Hel the construction of the main altarpiece of that friary. The conservation of the contract, in the Protocols section of the Provincial Historical Archive in Cordoba, enables us to learn morphologically and iconographically so important artistic piece, replaced in the first quarter of the eighteenth century.
