Abstract

This study aims to describe the Raddat Ape Nang Ditumbok dance’s existence in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan. The problems of this research are related to the existence and factors that influence how the dance still exist until now. Researcher used qualitative approach, particularly with the method of ethnography. There were two informants recruited who are the locals of Sambas regency and know about the history Raddat Ape Nang Ditumbok Dance. Data collection techniques used are observation and interviews. The technique to validate the data was source triangulation. The supporting factors for the dance’s existance are the artist’s role in the regeneration process of Raddat Ape Nang Ditumbok dance, the involvement of formal and non-formal institutions by making the dance as teaching materials, the dance festival’s organizers, community support, the researchers’ emergence, and art activists. The inhibiting factors for the dance’s existance are the lack of young millenial’s interest in traditional dance, the impact of the economic crisis on art performers, the COVID-19 pandemic, changes in human behavior and the lack of government attention. Efforts in preserving are establishing regeneration from early age, channeling creativity with traditional dance through social media and the government’s role to preserve Raddat Ape Nang Ditumbok dance.
