Abstract

Summary During the last decades an ever growing number of a certain type of compounds can be distinguished within the Czech word-formation process. Compounds based on international constituents (as bio-, eko-, agro-, video- …) are meanwhile so numerous, that they cannot be considered any more as a secondary way of word-formation. Assuming a relationship between language use and language evaluation, the present paper discusses the evaluation of the above mentioned compounds and how they are valued both by linguists and laymen. Based on texts that reflect certain linguistic values or linguistics schools, can be delineated different value types and evaluating instruments. Linguists typically prefer implicit evaluation based on utility-oriented values whereas laymen favor explicit language items to express absolute (puristic) values.
