Abstract

The article shows the twenty years of experience of the Ecological and Cultural Association “Ziarno” when it comes to changing the idea of the folk university into reality in the Masovian village, Grzybów near Płock. The author describes inspirations and a number of practical experiences from the implementation of short courses and two-year ecological farming courses. The focus is on the Ecological Folk University which hit the niche of Polish society and aroused great interest from both potential students and people from the academic or social environments. The author presents experiences in an auto-ethnographic perspective taking into account the statements of the graduates. She confronts the applied methods of work with Grundtvigian pedagogy which is a primeval source of folk universities (folkehøjskoler), referring to the principles of community live, learning through practice, teamwork and selfeducation, Oxford debates, live words, and music and singing practiced at the Ecological Folk University in Grzybów.
