Abstract

Ion-charge state distributions during vacancy cascades following K- and L I-shell ionization are calculated using a Monte Carlo simulation. The probability P(n) that n electrons are ejected after primary ionization is given as a function of atomic number in the region Z = 7 to Z = 60. The calculations are accomplished by tracing successive radiative and non-radiative transitions and the electron shake off process as an additional effect. Radiative and non-radiative transition rates have been calculated as relativistic wave functions.
