Abstract

In Scandinavian literary history, the name of Jonas Lie is closely associated with literary impressionism. Impressionism is used as evidence of a mode of writing that is modern. This article wants to find out about the connection between modernity and visual culture beyond impressionism. We shall see that Lies relationship towards modernity is extremely ambivalent.
