Abstract

A counter telescope for fast neutron spectroscopy is described. For the telescope, consisting of three CO 2 flow counters and a silicon detector, an efficiency of 1.1 × 10 −6 counts per incident neutron is obtained at E n = 14 MeV, the background sensitivity being less than 3%. The neutron energy spectra are obtained from the measured pulse height distributions by a computer program, which takes into account radiator thickness, aperture angle, (n,p) cross section and energy loss of the recoil protons in the telescope.
