Abstract

The Deck model for diffraction dissociation is revised to satisfy an eikonal representation. The theory is applied unsuccessfully to the ${A}_{1}$ enhancement in ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\rho}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}p$. The conventional double-Regge model of this reaction is shown to be inadequate also. Further directions are suggested.
