Abstract

Abstract This Congress, the first to be held in the tropics (Jakarta, Indonesia), focused on the importance of forests to people of the developing nations, especially to the large numbers of rural poor. While improvements in technology were recognized as desirable, stress was rather on the need to work for change within the cultural and economic conditions of individual countries.
