Abstract

The eigenstates of Maxwell's monochromatic equations in a multiconstituent composite medium are developed and used to expand a physical field that is created either by an externally given current density or by an incident external field. The local electric permittivity $\ensuremath{\kappa}(\mathbf{r})$, as well as the local magnetic permeability $\ensuremath{\mu}(\mathbf{r})$, are assumed to have uniform values in each constituent, but to differ in the different constituents.
