Abstract

The space with “negative” norm L - with which the Hilbert space L of wave-pockets is equipped is used as a natural carrier of non-square integrable functions which appear in scattering theory, such as the plane waves and distorted plane waves in potential scattering. The concept of a complete set of observables is formulated within this framework. The S-matrix formulae leading to the expression for the scattering cross-section are derived on a general level, and then are applied to the case of potential scattering.
