Abstract

The mass spectra of 5-oxo-1,3-oxathiolane (1) and its methyl derivatives (2–6) were measured at 70 eV and in five cases also as the function of the ionizing energy. Of the five possible modes of ring cleavage yielding fragments containing two or three ring atoms, three were actually observed and only one of them in all cases. The fragmentation pathways were confirmed through accurate mass measurements and B/E linked scanning.
