Abstract

Background: Improvement of Hand Hygiene (HH) compliance is a common goal in healthcare, but sustained achievement of that goal has proven difficult. It is well accepted that improving hand hygiene compliance, and maintaining that improvement, requires ongoing measurement and direct feedback of results, but these “simple” steps are time and resource intensive. In this study, an electronic hand hygiene compliance monitoring system (eHHCMS) was used both to monitor behavior and to give immediate feedback to healthcare workers (HCWs) on their HH compliance performance.
