Abstract

Much has been written recently about the National Health Service electronic health record initiative which, from outside the United Kingdom, may sound to some like the envy of the world. The National Health Service Connecting for Health is the body which now oversees the National Programme for Information Technology, which is responsible for delivering England's electronic health record or National Care Record Service. Questions have been raised as to whether the reported progress toward this admirable goal is an example of spin or reality. A health information management professional from the United States, who has been working inside the UK eye of the storm, sheds some light from a health information management perspective.
