Abstract

Education being one of the most important sectors for achieving the development objectives of any country. Teacher education is a need of hour in India, at present. There are some of the Regulatory/Governing Bodies such as UGC, AICTE, NCTE and many others. Amongst these, while talking towards Higher Education Regulatory Authority (HERA). National Council for Teacher Education, Delhi is playing the key role in strengthening the teacher education sector in India. As e-Governance helps in transparency improvement, improvement in efficiency of administration, to deliver public services up to the last person in the effective manner. NCTE is, stepping in a rapid manner by initiating several digital platforms, Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) are approaching the quality education by filling the online Performance Appraisal Report (PAR) which is a platform/initiative of NCTE for the performance evaluation of recognized TEIs. Also, NCTE has already invited applications for 4 year Integrated Teacher Education Programmes (ITEP) starting from the academic session 2020–21, through online mode. Also one platform Teacher Pupil Registration has been launched by the NCTE to facilitate the passed out/pursuing teacher pupils of any recognized TEIs situated across the country to assess the genuineness of their Teacher Education Programmes (TEPs), a completely online process starting from registration by the teacher pupils up to getting the certificate of approval. This paper presents the attempts made by NCTE in achieving the quality teacher education in India and use of various e-Governance platforms for the sector.
