Abstract

Bishop (1943) observes that adult Desmognathus f. fuscus are very variable in color and pattern, and King (1939) reports that isolation is responsible for consistent variations found in geographically separated groups. Comparison is here made between Bishop's (1941) records from Rochester, New York, and those of the authors from southwestern Ohio and southeastern Indiana, (the NW periphery of the known range), the problem being to determine whether consistent marked variations are found in characteristics other than color and pattern.
