Abstract

It has been pointed out in Part III of this report that immense variations appear in the number of matured follicles when mosquitoes of equal wing length are fed to repletion on human blood (Hosoi, 1953b) . Since growing follicles decrease in number usually by a fairly constant ratio, the above fact may presumably be due to differences in the number of follicles contained in the mosquitoes at the time of emergence. To what extent does this number relate to the wing length, or in what way is the relation changed by the breeding conditions? The following experiments were carried out for analysis of the problem.
