Abstract

The occurrence of eggs within the body of the female spittle bug, Philaenus leucophthalmus (L.), is related to the principles expressed in the Hopkins' Bioclimatic Law. Data relative to the occurrence of eggs were gathered from 309 sets of 10 females each taken from 30 locations in Northeastern United States. The data did not conform to the expectation from Hopkins' Law. However, a prediction equation computed from the data is presented so that the number of eggs at a given time in a given location can be predicted.
