Abstract

Background: Endoscopy (EGD) is a well recognized modality for drainage of peripancreatic fluid collections (PFC). The role of EUS for drainage of PFC requires further clarification as the procedure is technically challenging with limited availability. Aim: Identify characteristics that determine need for drainage of PFC by EGD versus EUS. Methods: Prospective study of all patients with symptomatic PFC (types: pseudocyst, abscess, necrosis) referred for endoscopic drainage. Following ERCP, transmural drainage was first attempted by EGD using a duodenoscope and gastroscope.
