Abstract

This chapter explores the meanings of home, efie, among ‘Ghanaian’ migrants in Toronto, Canada, and returned migrants in Ghana. Since the early 1980s, Toronto has become home to an estimated 20,000 Ghanaian Canadians, in response to the continuing economic crisis in Ghana. In addition to Toronto, Ghanaians can be found in other cities in Canada, the United States, Holland, Belgium, Germany and Britain, and newer locations in Asia, Australia and New Zealand, leading to the growth of what may be referred to as the ‘Ghanaian diaspora’.
