Abstract
A bibliographic review was done about the use of azitromicin on the treatment of periodontitis considering questions such as: Could this antibiotic increase the root planning effect, limit the adverse effects, or even be a substitute in some cases? The azitromicin is being used in some cases in association with scaling and root planning in the treatment of aggressive periodontitis, because of its effectiveness on fighting pathogenic bacteria. But few studies offer reliable content acknowledging the success of this new therapy. Thus, the treatment of aggressive periodontitis continues to be scaling and root planning.
