Mycoplasma contamination of continuous cell cultures is one of the major problems in cell culture technology. Only a limited number of compounds are active against those organisms. We first identified the presence of Mycoplasma hyorhinis in our MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. We then show that in these cells, doxycyclin was as effective as Plasmocin against this mycoplasma.
