Abstract

A novel and effective method is proposed for the suppression of edge effects by the technique of amplitude and phase optimization in finite ultrawideband tightly coupled phased arrays (TCPAs). Based on the scattering parameters of antenna ports and active element patterns, a non-convex optimization problem is established for the synthesis of TCPAs, where array gains at considered scanning angles and frequencies satisfying given maximum active VSWR and amplitude dynamic range ratio (DRR) are maximized. The non-convex problem is transformed into an iterative convex optimization problem by the use of iterative ways. The simulated results show that the active VSWR are suppressed to 3 over a 10:1 bandwidth by the proposed method.
