Abstract

An efficient solution of additional base stations (BSs) in time-of-arrival positioning systems, which aims to minimise the geometric dilution of precision, is presented based on generalised eigenvalue decomposition. A new indicator of geometry, the geometric consistency factor, is also introduced. The presented solution can save substantial computations for the geometry optimisation of additional BSs. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the solution for different numbers of additional BSs.
