Abstract

Photolysis of ICN in the A ← X continuum near 260 nm is shown to produce electronically excited iodine atoms with a quantum yield of 0.5 ± 0.1. In conjunction with previous photofragment spectroscopy and laser induced fluorescence studies, this result suggests that at least two excited states of ICN play a role in the photodissociation of this molecule.
