Abstract

The design of a passive ultra-wideband (UWB) pulse generator using cascaded sections of shunt-mode step-recovery diodes with decreasing lifetimes is presented. This pulse generator circuit generates 241 ps, 5.6 V pulses at 10 MHz pulse repetition frequency without the use of an additional amplifier. This pulse generator can be used in UWB radar systems that require sub-nanosecond pulses at low pulse repetition rates.
