Abstract

A semi-analytical approximate method, called the semi-vector optimal variational method, is applied to dielectric loaded surface plasmon polariton (DLSPP) waveguides. The method provides a simple, fast and efficient model for modal analysis of SPP waveguides. The modal characteristics obtained by the present method show good agreement with the rigorous analysis of finite element method. The method provides a good alternate for effective index methods which have ambiguity in its application and do not provide satisfactory results for the DLSPP waveguides.
