Abstract

In 1976, the professional market for microprocessor boards — either standard or dedicated — appeared to be multiboards, low volume per board market. Consequently the test development station had to be as low cost and versatile as possible to be n-plicated if necessary. Facing this problem, it was decided to build our own tester. Up till now, this tester has been used for 12 different boards and, thanks to a set of design rules developed with the tester, it gives fairly good results in both development and manufacturing. In 1977/78, 3000 boards were manufactured. A conservative approach estimates that this real-time tester will have been used for 11 000 boards at the end of 1979, while being built in 4 copies and upgraded to cope with analog peripheral circuits. It really made it possible to develop and manufacture complex, mainly digital, boards.
