Abstract

The wireless sensor networks (WSN) are a special type of ad-hoc networks which are used for an extensive range of real time applications like monitoring, surveillance, tracking, process control etc. The physical data viz. temperature, pressure, moisture etc. is transmitted within the network for further processing. Apart from physical data, direct images or video can also be transmitted in case the user wants to have a better idea of what is going on at the event site. But to transmit the images is in itself a challenging task considering the network load and congestion. The limited capabilities of the sensor nodes make it very difficult to transmit the images as they require substantial amount of overheads to be transmitted. Here a novel method is proposed which employs the cross layer technique through the various layers as it helps to achieve efficient transfer of images across the network.
