Abstract

ABSTRACT Isopolytungstate is considered an important intermediate product in scheelite metallurgy. However, extracting tungsten from the isopolytungstate solution and producing the conventional commodity ammonium paratungstate is challenging. This study is based on the polymerisation of tungsten to various polytungstates in acid solutions. Using the different morphologies of polymerisation, different types of anion exchange resin were used to extract tungsten from the isopolytungstate solution. The results indicated that the D301 resin had a better adsorption efficiency than the other resins. The tungsten adsorption efficiency reached 99.62% under suitable adsorption conditions. Additionally, tungsten loaded by resin could effectively be desorbed through the alkali desorbent. Under optimal desorbing conditions, the desorption efficiency reached up to 98.94%. This work proposes promising routes for extracting tungsten from isopolytungstate solutions.
