Abstract

Internet has a wide collection of information which encompasses both relevant and irrelevant data. In general, search engines provide abundant information for any search term which is keyed in. Some of the search results may be relevant and some others may be irrelevant. Therefore, it is tedious and time consuming for the knowledge seeker to filter out the relevant details from the huge pile of search results. Current web search engines are built to serve all users, independent of the special needs of any individual user. User profiling helps in filtering out the unwanted information and presents only the relevant results to the user. In this paper, an efficient Information Retrieval System (IRS) is developed to extract the relevant and most appropriate information for any particular search term. An efficient database that covers important terms in engineering curriculum has been designed and personalization of search process is carried out based on the user interests. Corrugated Search (CS) is employed in which relevant search results are filtered and presented to the user based on user profile and search context.
