Abstract

AbstractModernist dogma declares that ‘form follows function’, which historically has led to the design of buildings that tightly prescribe what can happen where and when. These uni‐functional spaces often lack a sense of happy expediency and joy. Columbian architect Giancarlo Mazzanti believes spaces and buildings should occupy a twilight zone that facilitates changes of function, is performative, and encourages unexpected social interactions between users and the city. Here he explains some of his firm's spatial tactics.
