Abstract

Shingles are affordable roofing materials. They can be quickly and easily installed and when maintained properly is long lasting. They are available in many textures, colours and styles and give an attractive appearance to the buildings. This paper deals with the selection of the best shingle roofing material utilizing ELECTRE I method on bipolar intuitionistic fuzzy soft expert sets. Firstly, the BIFSE decision matrix is found and weight values are calculated from the weight function. Secondly, the concordance and discordance sets are obtained. These values are used to calculate concordance matrix, discordance matrix and their levels. Next, BIFSE concordance and discordance dominance matrix are calculated and finally the aggregated BIFSE dominance matrix is found. Four types of shingle roofs which are asphalt shingle roof, wood shingle roof, slate shingle roof and metal shingle roof are estimated on the basis of their durability and cost. It is found that, wood shingle roof is the best type of sustainable roofing material.
