Abstract

A high-speed calculation of the Poisson equation is of an essential importance in the numerical analysis of thermohydraulic problems. The present study aims to examine the efficiency of parallel computation with a transputer array. Geometric parallelism of the two-dimensional Poisson equation is studied using the domain decomposition method divided into 4×4 transputers at most. The efficiency of parallel computation is measured with Parallel FORTRAN by the Jacobi or SOR method in terms of the number of transputers, mesh size and domain boundary communication. An equation to estimate the efficiency of the parallel computation is proposed and compared with the measured values. The results show that the proposed equation is in good agreement with the measured values.
