Abstract

The efficiency of five isolates of Paecilomyces lilacinus (Thom) Samson were evaluated as biocontrol agents against the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne javanica (Treub) Chitwood on eggplant under greenhouse conditions. Results showed that all the isolates tested were capable of reducing gall number and the galling index on the root system, especially isolates2 (21.4, 1.3) respectively. Four inoculum densities (0, 2, 4, and 8 g/plant) of P. lilacinus isolate2 grown on wheat seeds were used. Results indicated that an inoculum density of 8 g/plant, resulted in efficient biological control M. javanica, significantly reduced the number of eggs and root galling index on the root system (5742, 1.7) respectively compared with other treatments.
