Abstract
The author presents an approach to efficiency in clinical practice, consistent with the need to assure quality, optimal effectiveness, and ethical practice. The theoretical and empirical literature is surveyed with regard to intake decisions, goal setting, and planning the frequency and duration of service contacts. Diminishing returns in psychotherapy practice and distributive justice are examined.
