Efficiency evaluation of Qharz-Alhasaneh-Mehr-Iran Bank branches using data envelopment analysis (case study from North Khorasan, South Khorasan and Khorasan Razavi provinces)

Abstract

In this study efficiency evaluation of Qharz-Alhasaneh-Mehr-Iran bank branches in North Khorasan, South Khorasan and KhorasanRazavi provinces was investigated using data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach. For this purpose constant and variable returns to scale DEA models were applied for the data from 2009 and 2010 years. The results revealed that average technical efficiency, allocate efficiency and economic efficiency in the case of constant returns to scale condition for year 2009 were 0.44, 0.94 and 0.41, respectively; while the respective values for the year 2010 were found to be 0.51, 0.96 and 0.49. on the other hand, average technical efficiency, allocate efficiency and economic efficiency in variable returns to scale condition for year 2009 were 0.80, 0.99 and 0.79 respectively; while the respective values for the year 2010 were found to be 0.86, 0.96 and 0.49. The comparison of results with the results from the previous studies revealed that average technical efficiency and economic efficiency in Qharz-Alhasaneh-Mehr-Iran bank branches in the study area is relatively low.
