Abstract

A method to evaluate radiation efficiency is proposed. Normally the antenna gain is measured by comparing the gain of an antenna under test (AUT) with that of a standard gain horn (SGH). Once the gain is available, the antenna efficiency is computed assuming the directivity is available. However when there is scattering from nearby objects, the gain calibration may not be accurate and the data will give an erroneous radiation efficiency in the process. In the proposed method, the antenna efficiency is measured by comparing the efficiencies of the AUT and SGH, which reduces the uncertainties substantially.
