Abstract

Weeds are unwanted undersize plants compete for light, space, moisture, nutrients etc. for their existence, therefore, they may caused serious loss to the production of main crop. Yield of main crop is influenced by the density and competative ability of the weeds. An experiments was conducted at research farm of U.P. Council of Sugarcane Research Shahjahanpur during spring sessions of 2015–16 and 2016–17 with the variety Co 05011, to study the efficacy of UPH 114b weedicide on sugarcane against other weedicides. The layout was in a randomized block design (RBD) replicated thrice with 08 treatments i.e. T1-UPH 114b @2000g/ha spray, 25–30 DAP, T2- UPH 114b @3000g/ha spray 25–30, DAP, T3- UPH 114b @4000g/ha spray 25–30 DAP, T4- Pyrazusulfuron ethyl 10% WP @ 300g/ha spray 25–30 DAP, T5–2,4-D Sod. Salt 50% @3250 g/ha, T6- Metribuzine 70% WP @ 2000g/ha spray 25–30 DAP, T7- Hand weeding, T8- Weed check or control. The results indicated that hand weeding gave highest WCE than other treatments. The application of 4000g/ha UPH 114b gave higher tillers millable cane and cane yield than other treatments. Sucrose % in juice was not affected significantly due to the application of UPH 114b. Conclusively, weedicide UPH 114b showed higher weed control efficiency (WCE) than other weedicides tested.
